Find a foundation that is brown girl friendly is like finding a needle in a haystack. We either end up with the wrong color or we cannot find one that addresses our skin issues. Hey makeup companies out there, don’t you realize that we need foundation too?
It took me years to find the right foundation for me. I currently rotate between two foundations that I consider my holy grail foundations. If you’re still struggling with finding a foundation that works for you, here’s a few foundations that get the brown girl stamp of approval.
Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Longwear Foundation $47.00
This is one of my favorite foundations. After my previous foundation left my skin in shambles, I decided to splurge on a new foundation. This foundation is worth the money. Formulated with SPF 21, it absorbs oils leaving you matte all day. You will get a good 13 hour wear out of this foundation before your face starts falling off your face.
I actually listed this foundation on my January Makeup Favorites post. I came across this foundation when Sephora didn’t have Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Longwear Foundation in stock. This foundation is full coverage, lightweight and gives you a beautiful glow while leaving you matte all day. It’s basically Beyonce in a bottle.
Kat Von D Lock It Foundation $35.00
Kat Von D’s just added some new colors to this foundation that are brown girl friendly. The Lock It Foundation is very pigmented and I find that I only need about one to two pumps of foundation (depending on how temperamental my skin is that day) to get a full coverage.
If you’ve been in Sephora recently, then you’ve seen Black Up Cosmetics. Black Up Cosmetics is a black owned makeup company based in the UK. I recently gave this foundation a try and fell in love with it. Being that it is a black owned makeup company you know they dedicate to women of color and you won’t have an issue finding a color for you.
Black Opal is another black-owned makeup company. Their True Color Pore Perfecting Liquid Foundation happens to be one of my favorite foundations from them. This lightweight foundation proves a light to medium coverage that is matte. One downside with this product is that there is some color transfer but if you set your makeup, it shouldn’t budge.
Alright, this one is dedicated to all my girls who love powder foundation. Mac’s Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation happens to be one of the first foundations I ever tried out and will forever hold a special place in my heart. It provides a medium cover and since it's a powder foundation, it’s going to last you all day and you don’t have to set it. I use this foundation when I’m pressed for time and I also use it to set my eyeshadow base.
Next, to Black Opal’s foundations, this one is also my favorite drugstore foundations. The formula is very smooth and creamy and it doesn’t cake up. I get about 5 hours of wear with this foundation before my T-zone starts to get oily, which is not so bad for a drug store brand.
What foundation do you currently use? What’s your holy grail foundation?
